I'm still here, just having a moment

I've been checking my blog reel everyday and keep ignoring the fact that my last post was a week ago. I haven't done much in the way of crafting lately. I've been doing jigsaw puzzles instead. I only just picked my hexis back up again, they've been spread out on my floor for the last 2 weeks while I was sewing portions together but my motivation disappeared.

I've been having a moment....you know the one I mean. Doubting why it is I bother with all this crafty stuff anyway. It seems to be a dying art, few people are actually interested anymore and I never tire of the strange and surprised looks I get from people when I tell them what I do in my spare time. And if I hear 'you're so young, I don't think I've ever seen someone your age into that kind of thing' one more time I'm just gonna lose it.

Yes I craft. I sew, knit, crochet, bead, embroider, cross stitch and even draw, paint and collage when inspiration strikes. Yes I even make my own clothes and YES I'm not yet 24.

I do these things because I enjoy them. I like using my hands to fashion something different from something seemingly small and ordinary. I like to cook for the same reason.

If I'm so firm about what I do and why, why am I feeling down about it all, thinking it's a waste of my time and like I don't fit in?

hexagons

I figured since everyone else has finally gotten on the bandwagon, I should upload a pic of where I'm at with my hexi quilt. The top right and bottom left of the picture are actually to scale - the other corners arent spaced properly yet. I have spent the last couple of days working on the edging of the centre - the white hexis. Todays plan is to work on Kimba's framed hexi so I can return to my hexis and see how much I can get finished while uni break is on.

Friday Night Sew-In

Tonight I am participating in my first ever FNSI. I kept meaning to do it but I never had my dates right, I spend a lot of nights in crafting anyway. But this time my plans for the evening have fallen through and the dates coincide so here I am.

The list is as follows

  • I have a fuzzy neck-warmer to finish
  • Finish the binding on my chenille quilt
  • I'd like to try to get my tablerunner top quilted and finished
  • Will cut and baste more hexis for my hexi blanket
  • May also put some flowers together
  • I also want to knit another beanie
  • Will try to crochet more squares for my diagonal blanket
So those are the plans for this afternoon/evening. Will post back tomorrow with pictures.

Mars bar slice photos/tut.

tray, bowl of rice bubbles (rice crispies) and in a pot we have chopped up mars bar (milkyway) and butter. you can use marg. but it needs to stay refrigerated or it crumbles.
tassssty...

nougat doesnt melt. just so you know.

pour the mix onto the rice bubbles and stir through.

once its mixed through, press it into the tray, fill all the gaps and put it into the fridge or freezer to set before you can put the chocolate on top.

for the top, melt more butter and cooking chocolate and stir. chocolate holds its shape when melting so you need to stir it through.

it should look like that when its all melted. if you leave it any longer it will start to get..chunky. its not pretty and can only be fixed by adding more butter to smooth it out. fortunately mine came out good first time.

spread evenly(ish) on top and put back in the fridge/freezer to set.

once its set you can either cut it in the tray or flip it onto a chopping board. as i mentioned earlier if you use butter it  is ok to have room temp and it will hold its shape, if you use margarine it crumbles within minutes and melts the second you get your warm fingers on it. its VERY tasty though.

i love fridays

today is friday, and in my world that means.........KARAOKE!

I love to sing, and my friends love to drink and meet people so I joined in on their friday night ritual and now they cant get rid of me. Typically people meet at someones house before the scheduled start to play darts and catch up because by the time we get to the pub you cant hear a darned thing.

For this week, I decided to grace the boys with some mars bar slice. Partly for their benefit and partly because I havent baked in ages as my new house doesnt have an oven and slice i can do on the stove :)

So todays plan goes something like this, make slice, clean kitchen after making slice. go for a walk to get rid of the chocolate high that comes from licking the spoons at the end hahaha and then I can move on to sewing projects for the rest of the afternoon.

my sewing looks i believe will consist of clothing UFOS. i am very proud i finished my hexi tablerunner flimsy but it now needs backing and quilting and im still testing out my new machine so im not ready yet. my clothing is easy though as they are all done with straight stitches.

will return later with photos......

HAPPY FRIDAY
